Bicycles
So, I knew people in Japan rode bikes. But being here, in the city, it's still kinda neat. While we were out today we took a picture to show you a parking garage here at an apartment building. You know parking garages in America??? Well they have those here too, with the addition of some kind of lift that gives you two levels of car storage. But, what we see more often are parking garages for bikes.
Grace made an observation the other day...the ladies ride bikes in high heels. In skirts too. But, the heels were the more interesting realization. Men wear suits on bikes, carry their briefcase in the little basket. Moms have babies and toddlers in the little kiddie chairs on the back or on the front, just depends. You can see one of those on the photo above (it's white). Today, it's raining and people ride bikes while holding umbrellas. That is talent.
Jim considered buying a bike to save money on the taxi ride from the train station to his job. The taxi costs about $100/day and that doesn't count train fare. His friend declined his suggestion since it would include riding the bike in the rain. I guess rainy season is coming up soon.
Our apartment has bikes you can borrow. Jim mentioned maybe one day I could go to the store with one of the bikes. I can't help but visualize myself coming back with our groceries in the cute little basket and then falling and having our apples roll out in the street. I may work up to it, but for now I just giggle at the thought.
